It was a beautiful autumn morning in suburban Surrey and the Hersham links was there for the taking. Taken she was not.
There were casualties, the first being Simon West who suffered a back injury while putting his clubs into the car. He was to take no further part in the proceedings but played a blinder by eschewing his refund and converting it into beer for the remaining players. Many thanks Simon and we hope to welcome you back next year.
*“Beefy” Keith Pittams, sire of Michael, made a very respectable 30 points.
*David Knight, friend of Alastair Macaulay back from when there were only three channels, played well for his 33.
*Rob Wall was agonisingly inconsistent – at times brilliant, at times abject – scoring 35 and winning longest drive by a foot. 283 yards I reckoned.
*Michael Pittams played very well, won nearest the pin and made sure the pace of play did not falter. He scored 37.
*Star of the show was Josh Shattock, who has only been playing for a couple of years and doesn’t have a real handicap. He took the spoils with 38 points off 18. A fine effort.
The rest of us enjoyed our walk.
